Allendale Real Estate

Allendale: From A Rural Area To An Attractive Residential Neighborhood

While development began prior to and during World War I, the Allendale that we see now is the fruit of subsequent years. Around 10% of homes in the community were built during World War II. Half are said to have been constructed around the 1950s and 1960s. A third of the real estate was developed in the 1970s, while the rest were made after the 1980s. So, what started as a rural area has now turned into an attractive residential neighbourhood. Despite the mature neighbourhood, it has a young population. The majority of residents are in
their 20s to 30s.

Being at the centre gives Allendale access to various amenities. Allendale School, which offers Regular Academic, Cogito Academic Alternative, German Bilingual, and Interactions programs for Grades 7 to 9 students, is under the Edmonton Public School System. Neighbouring communities have elementary schools, such as the Parkallen Elementary School and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Elementary and Junior High School.

The University of Alberta campus, as well as the hospital, are easily accessible. That makes the area ideal for students. Other nearby amenities include the Rollie Miles Athletic Field and Scona Pool, and Stollery Children’s Hospital.

Shoppers will not have any problem because Whyte Avenue commercial area and Southgate Shopping Centre are nearby. 104th and 109th Streets are also home to various businesses. Transportation is also not an issue. Since Allendale is close to downtown, public transit is available. Major bus routes go through 106th and 109th Streets. There are a total of 13 bus stops in the neighbourhood. People can get on the LRT at South Campus Station or Southgate
Centre.

The Calgary Trail Gateway Boulevard allows residents to go north and south easily. The community is perfect whether you are looking for single-family houses, which make about 70% of Allendale homes, or low-rise apartment complexes. The neighbourhood also boasts of scenic parks ideal for taking a walk. Old, mature trees are seen around the community keeping residents connected with nature.
